The Fort LeBoeuf School District Foundation is asking for donations. Please consider a tax deductible donation to this worthy Foundation.

Bob Catlin - FLBHS Class of 1956

April 1, 2011

For many years the schools of Fort LeBoeuf have had a great tradition of helping students succeed, thanks in large part to the support of the community and its alumni. The Fort LeBoeuf Foundation has been a part of this proud "Bison" tradition for over 14 years. We would like you to be a part of this and support us in continuing this great heritage.

The Foundation has been providing scholarships and supporting projects in the Fort LeBoeuf School District since its inception. Every year the Foundation awards a Valedictorian scholarship and funds thousands of dollars in grants for projects requested by the faculty of the District, including equipment to enhance student's technical experience, education field trips to such places as Washington D.C., books for students to keep and take home, and numerous other projects that fall outside the school's budget or that exceed individual student's financial capacity to participate.

In addition, the Foundation invests and manages the financial assets of a number of private, FLB student-directed scholarships including but not limited to the Brian Milne scholarship, the Evelyn Askey-Zelinski Scholarship, the Greg Nelson Scholarship, the Dustin Fortin Scholarship, and the Waterford Invitational Scholarship.

The FLB Foundation is dependent upon the support of the community, alumni, employees and friends of the school district. Interestingly, until now the Foundation has not appealed directly to likely supporters. The contributions have come unsolicited from many who see the potential and see the opportunity to make a difference. But there is more to be done and that is where you come in. The Foundation's leadership and its current members believe many others would contribute if given the opportunity. Therefore, we are initiating a campaign to reach you and other likely contributors. This is an opportunity for you to give back, to develop and extend the great FLB legacy of preparing young people for the future.

You may direct your gift to a particular scholarship or you may make an unrestricted gift to be used where the Foundation finds the greatest need, including expanding scholarships, educational trips, and much needed equipment. You may make a gift to the Fort LeBoeuf School District Foundation to honor or memorialize a family member, a friend, a co-worker, a teacher, a student, or a mentor.

Every contribution is important and your support is highly valued, especially to those students and faculty who benefit directly from the Foundation's efforts. The alumni and community members of Fort LeBoeuf have always been a great part of helping students succeed. Please join us in our efforts. The Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit corporation and donations are tax deductible. Mail your contribution to:

The FLBSD Foundation announced recent awards they have made.

Bob Catlin - FLBHS Class of 1956

The Fort LeBoeuf School District Foundation recently awarded $5,000 in grants to teachers in the Fort LeBoeuf School District for various equipment and events not covered under normal budgets. Some of the materials will be shared among the buildings. Literacy and Technology Integrator Mrs. Heather Peters received FLIP cameras that will be used in all five schools. Mrs. Peters was also able to purchase 10 IPEVO cameras that will be used district wide.

The Foundation awarded $1,000 to the high school to help fund the purchase of EBSCOhost, a large online database that is used for research in all subject areas. EBSCOhost is a database used by many colleges and universities, so it is important for students to know how to use its resources. It allows students to gather the most up-to-date information for assignments like the state required senior project.

$500 was given to the high school chapter of Future Business Leaders of America. FBLA advisor, Mrs. Christine Seher is helping the students raise funds to attend the state conference in Hershey on April 4-6th. Seventeen students qualified at the regional competition in order to be able to attend the state conference. Students must place first, second, or third in competitions in various areas of business such as accounting, business law, and marketing.

At the elementary level, several grants were awarded. At Mill Village Mr. Jason Taylor was awarded money for microphones and Mrs. Vicki Saska was provided with items such as books and headphones for a Listening Library to help struggling readers. At Waterford Elementary, Mrs. Stacy Bukoski received a Bloggie camera for use with second graders. "It can take photos and videos that we can use to post on our class website and Trout In the Classroom blog. The students are also taking turns using the Bloggie daily to document our learning and it will be used for an end of the year project," said Mrs. Bukoski. Mrs. Laura Friedman was given money to help pay for Dreamweaver software for her fourth grade classroom website and a camera for classroom lessons. Mrs. Cindy Zylak received money for WEBS, Waterford Elementary Book Society, a book club for grades three, four, and five. "Starting in the fall of 2011 we will be able to provide books for all children who want to participate thanks to the generous grant from the Foundation," said Mrs. Zylak. School nurse, Mrs. Kim Sullivan was given money to help fund A Fitness Night at Waterford Elementary. Family Fitness Night will be held Friday, April 15, 2011 from 7pm-8:30pm in WES gym. April 15th will be the last day of the PTO sponsored "Turn Off The TV Week".

The Fort LeBoeuf School District Foundation was created in 1995 to help our students succeed in life by providing a wide range of educational opportunities and financial support. The Fort LeBoeuf Foundation is a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation comprised of school board members, school district officials and employees, as well as community members with expertise in education, finance, industry, business and marketing. Each member volunteers his or her time and expertise to provide each student with the resources to help achieve his or her potential as a student and become a productive member of our community.
